Nottingham is a bold, vibrant, and exciting Core City, at the heart of the UK – alive with potential and ambition – though not one without its challenges. Nottingham City Council has faced up to these significant challenges, , approaching the future with courage, energy, and a clear plan to put things right for the people of Nottingham. Our vision is of a bold transformation to deliver meaningful change for our residents, and we’re determined to get there.
We’ve made a promising start, with the Commissioners’ report last summer recognising our substantial progress. Our new Chief Executive has fostered a unified, dynamic approach to transformation, allowing us to pick up the pace still further. We’ve come a long way, but know that there is more to do, which is why we’re recruiting a cohort of new senior leaders who will accelerate our momentum, and ensure we achieve our ambitious vision at even greater pace.

As Strategic Director, and Deputy 151 Officer, you’ll work closely with the Corporate Director of Finance to lead the delivery of a class-leading strategic and operational finance function, ensuring continuous improvement as well as training and development across the directorate. You’ll oversee Medium Term Financial Strategy and will be responsible for commercial finance, including Council-owned companies.
Candidates must have significant experience of managing financial services at a senior level in a large public-sector organisation, with an impressive track record of sustained achievement. A confident and independent thinker, with the ability to challenge constructively as needed, you’ll be a visible and inspiring champion of a ‘best value’ approach. CCAB qualified (preferably CIPFA or CIMA), you’ll be able to understand, interpret and communicate complex scenarios to the full range of audiences.
