About the Role & process

Nottingham is a bold, vibrant, and exciting Core City, at the heart of the UK – alive with potential and ambition – though not one without its challenges. However, Nottingham City Council has faced up to these significant challenges. We’re approaching the future with courage, energy, and a clear plan to put things right for the people of Nottingham. Our vision is of a bold transformation to deliver meaningful change for our residents, and we’re determined to get there.

We’ve made a promising start, with the Commissioners’ report last summer recognising our substantial progress. Our new Chief Executive has fostered a unified, dynamic approach to transformation, allowing us to pick up the pace still further. We’ve come a long way, but know that there is more to do, which is why we’re recruiting a cohort of new senior leaders who will accelerate our momentum, and ensure we achieve our ambitious vision at even greater pace.

Our task is to shape a new paradigm for the funding and delivery of high-quality public services, which equitably balances financial risk and organisational ambitions. Providing clear and confident strategic leadership across the directorate, you’ll be a trusted adviser to elected members, colleagues and partners as well as a key contributor to the Corporate Leadership Team. You’ll identify and appraise new and emerging opportunities and models, while also being responsible for the Council’s Medium Term Financial Strategy and driving the Council’s Recovery & Improvement plan.

Candidates must have extensive experience of leading through challenge and change, as well an impressive track record of relevant professional and technical practice. You will understand the s.151 role from the inside, and will be able to offer numerous examples of responding to complex and structural issues with innovation and determination. An inspiring and positive management style will enable you to support improvement programmes across the directorate and the Council.
