Nottingham is a bold, vibrant, and exciting Core City, at the heart of the UK – alive with potential and ambition – though not one without its challenges. Nottingham City Council has faced up to the significant challenges it has experienced. We’re approaching the future with courage, energy, and a clear plan to put things right for the people of Nottingham. Our vision is of a bold transformation to deliver meaningful change for our residents, and we’re determined to get there.
And we’ve made a promising start, with the Commissioners’ report last summer recognising our substantial progress. Our new Chief Executive has fostered a unified, dynamic approach to transformation, allowing us to pick up the pace still further. We’ve come a long way, but know that there is more to do, which is why we’re recruiting a cohort of new senior leaders who will accelerate our momentum, and ensure we achieve our ambitious vision at even greater pace.
This hugely important role will drive a new paradigm for energy and sustainability across both the Council and our city. At its heart is the rapid and effective delivery of our energy, environment and sustainability programmes, from initiation to realisation. This must include meeting rigorous ROI targets. More, you’ll act as our lead advisor on all environmental and sustainability issues, including climate change and carbon neutrality. A key responsibility will be to representing our interests in negotiations with Government on Net Zero and climate-associated initiatives.
Appropriately qualified and a member of a relevant professional body, you’ll bring wide experience as a senior leader in a comparable role within a complex organisation, and a detailed grasp of the current operating environment for local authorities is essential. Your professional skillset – people management, budgets and finance, planning and programme management – must be exceptional, and you must have a track record of designing and rolling out major change programmes in a way that actively engages stakeholders and partners across the board.
