Sheffield City Council is a council that leads boldly with purpose and decisiveness, that puts the people and communities of Sheffield at the heart of everything it does, and that works hard to deliver excellence first time, every time. It is an extraordinary place to live and work, providing a perfect balance of the vibrant urban, award-winning culture and the outdoors.
We now have two exciting senior opportunities to join our legal team and to contribute to the modernisation through the Future Sheffield programme of one of this country’s most exciting, vibrant, and diverse cities. Your work will help our council reach its potential and be an organisation that our community and stakeholders recognise as delivering against our City Goals.
Both roles will be Deputy Monitoring Officers and report directly to the General Counsel. They are at the heart of our democratic decision making, playing an integral role in supporting Members and senior leadership realise our ambitions and to shape how we work differently with both internal and external partners into the future. We understand the strategic role that legal plays, through effective business partnering, timely advice on complex issues and ongoing committee support – all of which are integral to high performance and good governance.
If you are committed to good governance, with a proven track record in working with Elected Members and Senior Leaders in decision making processes and are passionate about leading legal teams to deliver transformation and high performing services, we would love to hear from you.
This is a politically restricted post. You will support Directorate Business Continuity as part of an on-call rota to provide co-ordination of critical incidents, should these occur.
We are investing in our workforce and are promoting opportunities to our under-represented groups. We value equality, diversity and inclusion and are focused on increasing the diversity of our workforce, particularly the number of Black, Asian, Minority Ethnic, Disabled and LGBTQ+ people, so that our teams reflect the communities in the city we serve. We are also supporting staff with unpaid caring responsibilities to work flexibly.
