Hammersmith & Fulham is a powerhouse of innovation, progress and an absolute focus on co-production with residents. Our vision is to build a stronger, safer, and kinder borough for everyone, and our track record is one of high performance, high satisfaction and low council tax. This remarkable blend of professionalism and compassion means that we’re well-placed to support our community through past, present and future challenges.
We own and manage around 17,500 homes across the full range of types and tenures, which represents around a third of total households in the borough. Moreover, we’re busy developing 1,800 new homes, schools, community halls and play areas through schemes which are co-produced, sustainable and self-financing. Our team of over 500 dedicated housing professionals work tirelessly to deliver our vision of providing safe, decent homes within a thriving community where people want to live. We’re on a rapid improvement journey; and while there’s still much to do, this is your chance to really make your mark as we build an ambitious and resident-centred service.
This role oversees an integrated portfolio, including neighbourhoods, sheltered housing, homelessness prevention (including rough sleeping and supported housing), allocation policy and lettings, estate and leaseholder services and our refugee programme. You’ll lead these services as we undertake a major transformation and reform programme, driving positive cultural change and personally exemplifying the kind of housing management service we aspire to deliver. This will include embedding a best-in-class performance culture, rooted in a genuine commitment to lasting resident satisfaction.
Candidates will be outstanding leaders and managers, with an impressive track record of developing self-improving teams which deliver sustained high performance. You must have a detailed understanding of the whole portfolio – both as individual services, and also how they work together at a system level – plus the partnership-building and communication skills to rapidly win the confidence and engagement of colleagues, partners and elected members alike. With strong budgeting and operational skills, you’ll bring a practical, evidence-based approach to change, without ever compromising our ambitious vision for better.
