About Cornwall Council
Diversity of thought is central to how we operate, and we welcome new thinking and new ideas so that we can stay ahead of the curve.
We are an ambitious Council and one that celebrates equality, diversity and inclusion, which are enshrined in our values: Fair, Ambition, Inclusion and Respect (FAIR). Our work to secure more devolution continues, with the Council set to become the first local authority in the country with devolved responsibility and budget to commission adult education provision so we can ensure residents have the skills to support the growth of exciting new economic sectors, such as minerals, space, marine, renewables and agri-tech.
We are BIG on delivery, having a track record of delivering high quality services, and turning things around quickly when they are not so good. Our communities are highly engaged, and whilst we have some recognised challenges relating to an ageing population and areas of deprivation – our commitment to these complex challenges is second to none, and we are tackling them head on with an increased sense of partnership working with communities and partners.
Whilst we might be geographically remote, our Council ambition is reflected in how we are investing in our infrastructure and Cornwall has never been more connected, with the construction of the £50m mid-Cornwall metro, a growing airport, and multi-million pound investment in Cornwall's strategic roads. We are also connected digitally and seriously innovative in this space – Cornwall played a pivotal role in the development of transatlantic communication – and we continue to innovate in terms of digital and green energy.
Underpinning the mission are our four Outcome Delivery Plans which sets out how we are going to deliver for our communities:
A thriving, sustainable Cornwall
Vibrant, safe, supportive communities
An empowering and enterprising Council
