We’re determined to make Plymouth one of the most vibrant waterfront cities in Europe, where an outstanding quality of life is enjoyed by everyone. The Plymouth Plan – which looks ahead to 2034 – sets a shared direction of travel for the long-term future of the city, and brings together a number of strategic planning processes into one place.
And there’s already plenty of activity underway with the City’s long-term commitment to Growth. Investments of over £1 billion have secured submarine and nuclear work in Plymouth for the next 70 years. With significant manufacturing and engineering capabilities, and as a global centre of excellence for marine science and technology, Plymouth is the ideal place for serving many aspects of the planned floating offshore wind developments in the Celtic Sea.
The City Council’s task is to develop the housing, skills, education and transport to meet this coming wave of regeneration. Our new Strategic Director of Growth will lead our plan for a new town within the city centre, driving economic growth and inward investment by attracting funding and developing regeneration partnerships with the private, voluntary and public sectors. You will benefit from an award winning and well-established Growth department with strong in-house capacity across multiple disciplines.
As our principal expert advisor on growth, infrastructure, planning, economic development and street services, you’ll guide us on the optimal strategies to attract inward investment and drive inclusive growth for our city. Candidates will be instinctive system thinkers with a delivery mindset. Emotionally intelligent, with strong political and financial nous, you’ll bring not only an impressive back catalogue, but also plenty of new ideas for the future. And we’ll look to you for visible leadership across the Council.
