About Salford

Over the past decade, Salford has embarked on an extraordinary journey, evolving as a contemporary global city.

This transformation has drawn substantial public and private investment, and consolidated its role as a powerful contributor to Greater Manchester's growth.

As the western entry point to the city region, Salford boasts some of Greater Manchester's prime strategic growth areas. These include MediaCityUK, City Centre Salford, and Airport City.

Despite the challenges posed by the COVID-19 pandemic, Salford remains perfectly positioned to identify and optimise emerging opportunities, and maintain investment in the diverse communities we serve.

Salford is building back a better and fairer place, with the foundations of our exceptional economic progress remaining strong.

We have an excellent record of working with partners to safeguard our residents and local economy, while continuing to deliver public services.

Our ambitious and highly effective partnerships with key institutions in Salford (such as the Salford Royal Foundation Trust, Greater Manchester Integrated Care Partnership, and the University of Salford) have allowed us to create pioneering joint initiatives, such as the integration of health and social care and children's social care, public health and primary care commissioning, and the visionary £2.5 billion Salford Crescent masterplan.

You'll find more detail about our core priorities later on this page. They provide a frame of reference against which we allocate our resources, plan our projects and engage with our citizens and partners.

The video below offers just a flavour of what makes Salford unique and how we are doing things differently to achieve our vision for a fairer, greener and healthier Salford.

Our vision and Priorities

We all play a vital role in building a fairer, greener, healthier and more inclusive Salford, and ‘our new Corporate Plan for 2024-2028’ sets out our organisational priorities to help us achieve this.

We are committed to building on our past successes and continuing to find new and innovative ways of delivering services to meet any challenge we face.

This Corporate Plan sets out seven interconnected priorities that will provide the focus of our work over the next four years. Hear our Chief Executive, Tom Stannard, talk about how these shared ambitions unite everyone at the council and will guide our efforts over the next four years.

Our values & the Spirit of Salford

At Salford, our approach revolves around people and is guided by our core values. The essence of the Spirit of Salford is palpable in our commitment to pride, passion, people, and personal responsibility. These principles not only embody the spirit and expectations of our city but also serve as the compass guiding our actions and decisions, transforming the way we operate.

By consistently embodying these values in our daily lives, we foster a nurturing environment that enables us to strive for excellence and work towards our vision. The Spirit of Salford encapsulates our cultural identity, our sense of social responsibility, and our deep-rooted pride. Our organization revolves around individuals and the communities we are dedicated to serving.

We live and breathe our values in everything we do. Our annual Spirit of Salford employee awards recognise our people for living our values, we also recognise our managers, teams and an employee of the year–which is voted for by their peers. We also take the opportunity to recognise the commitment of our people who have been with us for 25 years.
