Herefordshire is located at the heart of the Marches, where England meets Wales and Herefordshire is one of the most rural and sparsely populated counties in England. Beautiful unspoilt countryside, distinctive heritage and many lively market towns add to its special blend of town and country living. We have two areas of outstanding natural beauty on our doorstep with the Wye Valley and the Malvern Hills both offering wonderful walking and river activities. Thriving independent and specialist shops make Hereford and the market towns interesting and attractive shopping venues. Transport-wise, Hereford is well connected with the rest of the UK, meaning you can be in Cardiff in an hour and Birmingham in an hour and a half.

Herefordshire’s rich historical past is brought to life by a range of heritage attractions, castles, stately homes and museums. There are also many ancient and beautiful churches, including Hereford Cathedral, which houses one of the world’s largest collections of illuminated manuscripts.
Hereford is home to restaurants, bars, nightclubs and a state of the art cinema. Cultural highlights include The Courtyard - a premier arts and entertainment venue, a host of festivals including poetry in Ledbury, the Borderlines Film Festival, Herefordshire Walking Festival, the world famous Hay Festival is an annual not to be missed high point. Take your pick of places to eat out, ranging from the lively and busy restaurants in the city to beautifully located individual eateries offering locally sourced dishes….and even a Michelin star or two.

A place to learn and work
Our schools are another thing we are really proud of. At primary level there are some excellent schools in the
villages with smaller in takes and class sizes. At secondary level we have schools that are very proud of their achievements and facilities offering an exciting educational experience.
Secondary School League Tables
We are delighted that Hereford is now a university city with the opportunities that will be bring to the county. Our new university NMITE has started taking students with a focus on technology and engineering and a radical approach to study and assessment and the success of the university is a key priority for the council. Our successful Enterprise zone is located just south of Hereford city centre and providing a secure base for high tech businesses and attracting well paid jobs to the county.
