Welcome to Surrey

Thank you for your interest in this important and deeply rewarding role. Surrey County Council has huge ambition: we want to be a sector-leading council. And as our new Chief Executive, you will be leading this mission, with a real influence on how we achieve it.

We have made some great progress over the last few years through hard work and innovative thinking. We’ve improved our services and are better delivering for our communities. However, it is no secret that local government is going through tough financial times, and while we have budgeted well and aren’t nervously looking at our bottom line, we aren’t immune from the challenges across our sector. The future is going to require even more bold thinking and difficult decisions will have to be made.

You will inherit a well-structured organisation with good foundations for the future. There are lots of great people across the Council – all of us are deeply motivated to deliver for the residents of Surrey, particularly those who need our help the most.  The fact that we have stark inequality in our county means we have much work to do.  A key focus for our new Chief Executive will be to ensure our strong improvement plans are fully implemented and we will expect you to have clear ideas on how to improve the delivery of services to all residents. At the heart of everything we do is helping to make Surrey an even better place to live and ensure no one is left behind.

We’re looking for a Chief Executive who wants to get things done quickly and to the highest standard, with real ambition and a desire to make a mark for the years to come. We want someone who will bring energy to the organisation from the top, who can come up with creative ideas and think outside the box to solve problems. This is a brilliant chance to affect positive change on the lives of 1.2 million people.

If you’re reading this and feeling excited at the challenge, and believe you are the person for the job, we would be delighted to hear from you.
