Dear Applicant,
I am delighted that you are interested in joining Hammersmith & Fulham and delivering one of the biggest housing investment programmes in London, in one of its most environmentally, economically, and socially ambitious boroughs.
Upstreaming costs is at the heart of our approach for delivering quality housing services. This includes prompt and effective delivery of our £600m capital investment programme to reduce the number of repairs needed at properties and taking commercially and operationally optimal approaches to contracting and managing our repairs and maintenance services.
Strong leadership is also vital – you’ll need to maintain a cohesive and efficient Housing service replete with innovation, determination, compassion and a working environment where colleagues feel valued and thrive. Doing so will help your teams deliver excellence in services that you’re responsible for e.g. resident and building safety, allocations and lettings, homelessness prevention, neighbourhood and place services, and digital transformation.
Hammersmith & Fulham is both a distinctive and attractive borough to work in and organisation to work for. You’ll be responsible for varied housing stock, home to thriving diverse communities, in an attractive and vibrant Inner-London setting. Political support for delivering excellence in Housing is strong and we put great emphasis on coproducing delivery ambitions with residents. We do things with residents, not to them.
As an integral part of my Department Management Team, the successful candidate will work alongside leaders from Planning and Property, Regeneration, and Economic Development to ensure that Housing plays a fulsome role in wider corporate agendas.
These include the innovative joint working with Digital services, NHS and Social Services, the Borough’s aspirations for net zero and tackling the climate and ecological emergencies, and the role of housing in our Industrial Strategy that seeks to make H&F the best place in Europe to do business for the benefit of our residents and local companies.
We are looking for an influential leader, someone comfortable working in complex political environments, on major contracts and programmes, and at the heart of vital partnerships with residents, businesses, and other parts of the Council. You will translate our strategy into exceptional services and programmes, keeping a firm grip across the design, planning, delivery and continual improvement and evaluation. You’ll support your staff to thrive and overcome challenges.
In return, you’ll receive rewarding work, plenty of support in a collegiate atmosphere, and the training and mentoring that helps you reach your goals and potential.
I hope to receive your application; this is a stretching and fantastic job.
With best wishes,
Jon Pickstone
