Director of Digital

Location: Matlock, Derbyshire

Salary: £104,789 - £115,059

Reference: A000976

Status:

Making Derbyshire digital is one of the most exciting system modernisation projects in the industry. It has the potential to transform the way Derbyshire County Council operates and delivers services – and the killer fact is that the replacement cycle for our legacy systems mean that our new Director of Digital will be able to design and build a truly cutting-edge, future-facing platform. It’s a million miles from clumsy bolt-on upgrades or long, circular conversations with SaaS providers about modifications: an opportunity not to be missed.

You’ll be the Council’s lead on Digital, Data and Technology infrastructure and software, ensuring that our systems support the effective delivery of all services. It’s much more than a service management role: we have committed to a major modernisation programme, and you’ll be the strategic visionary who designs it, as well as the technical architect and project lead who makes it happen. Overseeing four teams (Strategy and Architecture, Business Support, Continuous Improvement, and Service management) you’ll develop both robust capacity, and a culture of continual improvement that’s rooted in a user-centric philosophy.

Candidates must have extensive experience of leading a diverse range of ICT disciplines in a large and complex organisation. It’s essential that you have a track record of establishing a mandate for change, and engaging colleagues to join you on the journey. Politically astute, with a nuanced understanding of how to drive change in a democratic and unionised environment, you’ll derive enormous satisfaction from seeing your hard work turn into improved performance, outcomes and reputation.
