Location: Flexible - with travel to LGA offices in central London as appropriate.

The Local Government Association (LGA) is uniquely placed to promote, improve and support local councils. We have recently welcomed a new Chief Executive, Joanna Killian, who is leading a change programme to ensure our organisation is fit for whatever the future brings and to allow us to be as agile as possible to serve our member councils across the country. As part of this new programme, we are looking for a new Director of Communications and Engagement with the necessary drive and determination to help us achieve this fresh approach and ensure we deliver our mission. 

You will be at the heart of our commitment to be the national voice for local government at an exciting time for both the sector and the organisation. You will be accountable for shaping and leading a world class communications function, always focussed on continuous improvement. 

You will shape and deliver on our strategic objectives through your leadership of our communications team and the communications and engagement profession across the LGA. You will be seen as an advocate and ambassador for the profession across local government and the wider public sector. 

You will bring passion and determination to ensure that, with the LGA Board and our key stakeholders, we shape the future of local government. You’ll bring a growth mindset which ensures that the LGA is at the forefront of current and future communications and engagement practice. This includes working across all disciplines from campaigns, public affairs,  events, media relations and  digital communications , to promote and support the LGA and local government  In a fast-moving and ever-changing environment, you will work with our political leadership and senior management team bringing energy, vision, and expertise to our work with the sector and inspiring our workforce. Your work both inside and outside the organisation will help ensure that local government’s voice is heard, and our communities get the deal they deserve.
