Operational Services sits at the centre of that ambition. The service is highly visible, valued by residents and plays a critical role in shaping the environment and communities of South Derbyshire. We recently delivered one of the most significant changes to our waste services, through the successful introduction of food waste collections,.

At the same time, we have invested heavily in service transformation, modernising operations and embracing digital technology to improve efficiency, performance management and the customer experience. The introduction of our new digital waste management system has transformed how services are planned, monitored and delivered, providing real-time information, greater operational oversight and improved services for residents.

This role offers a unique opportunity to build on those foundations. We are looking for a leader who can continue to drive improvement, use data and technology to support service excellence, and inspire teams to deliver outstanding outcomes for our communities. Our Operational Services team has demonstrated a willingness to embrace change and innovation, creating a strong platform from which the next Head of Service can shape the future of environmental and waste services across the district.

We are also approaching a defining period for local government. Local Government Reorganisation (LGR) presents both challenge and opportunity. While change is inevitable, it provides a fantastic opportunity for talented leaders to help shape the future of local government services across Derbyshire.
