This is a crucial role within the Council’s Economy and Place Service, which itself is a discrete Service Area within the Economy and Environment Directorate. The Head of Property position is a brand new senior post within the organisation and has been created as a result of a recent redistribution of responsibilities across Directorates. It offers an excellent opportunity for the post holder to make a fundamental difference to the way in which the Council works, with significant scope to directly shape all aspects of our asset, property and construction strategies and operations.

Many Local Authorities across the UK and Wales face key challenges currently, particularly the need to maintain high standards of Service delivery within increasingly tighter budget constraints. In Torfaen, we are realistic about the scale of the challenges we face and appreciate that we need to make tough choices about where to focus resources. The way we use and manage our property assets has a key role to play, understanding that financial resilience and innovation is vital if we are to continue to serve Torfaen’s communities. With prudent investment, we are confident we will be able to continue to deliver the services that people need, whilst also recognising that in a regionally competitive Wales Torfaen needs to stand out from the crowd in order to attract the inward investment that will secure our future prosperity.
