I’m delighted that you have chosen to find out more about the crucial and rewarding senior pension officer role at Greater Gwent (Torfaen) Pension Fund, hosted by Torfaen County Borough Council. The fund covers Torfaen, Blaenau Gwent, and Caerphilly County Borough Councils, Monmouthshire County Council and Newport City Council.
As the Statutory LGPS Senior Officer, you will provide clear strategic leadership and direction, ensuring alignment with corporate priorities and driving continuous improvement across the Pensions function. You will oversee all aspects of our £5bn pension fund’s operations, spanning investment strategy, liaison with the scheme actuaries, administration, and governance. You'll be a key member of the Corporate Resources Management Team, leading by example in terms of embedding the vision, values and behaviours of the council.
The Fund has approximately 60,000 members and more than 50 participating employers within the Greater Gwent area with assets under management of £5bn. The Fund’s primary objective is to ensure that over the long term the Fund will have sufficient assets to meet all pension liabilities as they fall due.
Following Government’s fit for the future consultation The Greater Gwent (Torfaen) Pension Fund along with the other seven funds in Wales have created an asset management pool, WPP IMCo ltd to manage the £26bn of Welsh LGPS investments which includes the £5bn of Greater Gwent (Torfaen) Pension Fund assets. You will work closely with WPP IMCo to shape the future of LGPS investment including impact investing in the United Kingdom and Wales.
You will lead a talented, multi-disciplinary team based in Pontypool, supported by external advisors and be part of a collaborative partnership in Wales through WPP IMCo.
This role will play a pivotal part in achieving our potential, and I very much look forward to meeting you.
