The sheer scale of Cornwall Council’s operations (with nearly 600,000 residents and a budget of over £1bn) mean it’s vital that we are an empowering and enterprising organisation, securing great value for money and providing a consistently excellent customer experience. While we’ve made significant progress in recent years, there’s always more to do, and this role will be at the heart of the next phase of our transformation and improvement.

Overseeing our newly created Economy, Regeneration & Assets service, you’ll play a decisive role in shaping the future growth and prosperity of Cornwall through effective delivery of the Council’s Good Growth Plan. As our principal economic advisor, you’ll embed a One Public Sector approach that deftly manages the dynamic relationship between assets, regeneration and investment to help build a strong, self-supporting economy that benefits everyone. Visible, influential and respected by public and private sector partners alike, you’ll develop an effective and sustainable operating model, which delivers target outcomes within an appropriate risk envelope.

Candidates must bring extensive experience of leading and delivering a comparable portfolio, probably within local / central government or a public / private sector partnership. You’ll understand how to tell Cornwall’s compelling investment story, and will also understand how to grow and develop a skilled workforce that can maximise the benefits of the emerging technology revolution. A strong track record of partnership working to create opportunities is a must, as are the skills to work at a system level to leverage investment and drive long-term value.
