Cornwall is at the forefront of innovation, with our pioneering communities ensuring we are at the heart of the UK's technological, ecological and creative advancement. As well as globally renowned natural environment and cutting-edge digital infrastructure, you’ll find exciting new economic sectors, including minerals, space, marine, renewable energy and agri-tech. Our forward-looking economic strategy supports our simple, clear and inclusive vision – ‘Together for a carbon neutral Cornwall, where everyone can start well, live well and age well’.
The sheer scale of Cornwall Council’s operations (with nearly 600,000 residents and a budget of over £1bn) mean it’s vital that we are an empowering and enterprising organisation, securing great value for money and providing a consistently excellent customer experience. While we’ve made significant progress in recent years, there’s always more to do, and this role will be at the heart of the next phase of our transformation and improvement.
Our new Chief Digital Officer will shape and lead the development and delivery of our digital strategy and provide colleagues and partners with the tools, skills and impetus they need to achieve our digital ambitions. This will include sequencing, prioritising and resourcing our digital delivery plan, ensuring that we adopt modern customer focussed digital experiences and end to end processes. You’ll also embed digital skills into the organisational development plan, and (as a member of the Council’s wider leadership team) advise us on how to apply a sophisticated digital approach to the full range of business strategy and process redesign.
Candidates will bring extensive experience of leading future-focused Digital services in an organisation of comparable size and complexity. An understanding of public service provision and the democratic context would be a definite advantage, as would practical experience of designing and implementing people focussed digital solutions and process change in both private and public sectors. You’ll be a visionary Digital strategist, providing dynamic leadership, yet always outcome-focused, able to plot the critical path through to digital transformation ensuring it enables efficient and effective services for our customers.
