Joint Deputy Head of Adult Services

Across Blaenau Gwent and Torfaen in South Wales, our councils are doing something genuinely different. Adult social care in Blaenau Gwent and Torfaen is entering an exciting new chapter. This newly created role will be central to developing our vision for a federated service that delivers safe, consistent and high-quality support across two Councils, while retaining a strong focus on local communities and relationships.

Reporting to the Head of Adult Social Care and Commissioning, you will lead adult social work and care management across four long term locality teams that span both our Councils. Your portfolio will encompass professional practice, quality assurance, safeguarding, transformation, performance and financial management. You will strengthen consistent ways of working, support established managers through change and ensure services remain responsive to differing patterns of need.

Partnership will be fundamental. You will work closely with Aneurin Bevan University Health Board (ABUHB), Social Care Wales, our regulators, elected members and community partners, championing prevention, co-production and integrated approaches that improve outcomes for the people who live in our communities and sustainable support to meet future demand.

You will be a qualified, credible and forward-thinking social work practitioner and leader with substantial management experience, a strong grasp of Welsh adult social care legislation and a proven record of service improvement. Resilient, collaborative and comfortable challenging established practice, you will bring the energy and judgement needed to turn an ambitious model into sustainable delivery.
