Welcome to the Royal Borough of Windsor & Maidenhead

Welcome letter from Adrien Waite, Assistant Director Place - Planning

Thank you for showing an interest in a role here at Royal Borough of Windsor & Maidenhead. We are a busy, well-resourced, and fairly large planning team, that is rising to the challenge of implementing the Borough Local Plan, adopted in 2022. The plan has forty allocated residential sites across the Borough and, therefore, a varied range of development form and locations, from low/mid density housing to higher density urban centre locations. We also have two main town centres and a number of smaller centres, sport and recreation, world famous landmarks and a whole range of employment uses resulting in interesting and challenging applications and enforcement.

We are developing further supportive planning documents including an affordable Housing SPD, a Sustainability SPD and place specific placemaking SPDs.

The planning roles that we are recruiting to will be key to delivering the local plan, and in protecting the natural and historic environment in the Borough.  We work closely and collaboratively as a team across Planning with Planning Policy, Development Management (including Enforcement), and the support team (including validation), all under my service area.

This is an expansion of the existing Planning Team to meet the challenges of delivering a resilient and effective planning service, and a regrading of the management role that delivers the Development Management Service.

Trees and woodlands are an essential part of the Borough’s character and identity. The two roles we are appointing to in the Tree Team are to assist in the delivery of the Council’s strategy/policy in regard to sustainable tree management, and will be working alongside experienced colleagues in a friendly and forward-thinking team.

The team that you will join is friendly, welcoming, and supportive.

Also, there is hybrid working - most officers work both from home and the office, coming into the office once or twice a week. However, there is usually a good office presence and supportive atmosphere.

As a wider Place Directorate, we hold ‘All Place’ days that will give you the opportunity to meet, engage and form relationships with colleagues in other parts of the Directorate, many of whom you will work collaboratively with in your role.

I hope you will see exciting opportunities at the Royal Borough to make a difference and grow your career.

I hope you will join us.
