A Faer Point: Five Years On - A Time For Reflection
As Faerfield celebrates five years, Founder and Managing Director Martin Tucker reflects on what has happened and what is next.
I think it’s fair to say that 2025 has started with a bang and, having managed recently to carve out some time to reconnect with family and friends, I couldn’t help reflecting on the personal and professional journey we have had at Faerfield as we celebrate our fifth anniversary.
When we set out as a business five years ago, we had a clear and simple vision for the kind of organisation we wanted to create. Our goal was to build on our extensive experience and expertise to support organisations and individuals to achieve their best. We were not driven by a desire to conquer the world or to become the largest player in any given market. Instead, we aimed to bring an authentic and values-driven approach to finding, nurturing, and developing exceptional leaders capable of making a meaningful impact in their chosen professions.
Five years on, I am proud of what the company has achieved. We have been privileged to work with a wide range of clients to improve performance, to achieve growth or to deliver transformational change in pursuit of excellence. Whatever the context, the constant theme has been successfully identifying, appointing and supporting leaders who bring expertise, diversity and different thinking to Boards and leadership teams.
The last two months have been tumultuous, both at home and abroad, and it has been striking to see how leadership behaviours are shaping the future, not just for communities but for countries. Whilst in the USA traditional leadership behaviours and norms are being ripped up driven by self-interest, centralised control and protectionism, in the UK we are seeing an increasing drive from political leaders to devolve accountability and actively engage with local political and private sector interests to help drive economic growth and prosperity.
This point was really driven home during our inaugural Faerfield Lecture on devolution and regional growth, held in partnership with Kings College London and the Strand Group, to celebrate our 5th Anniversary. The keynote speech and contributions from an expert panel demonstrated a mix of constructive challenge, optimism and strategic thinking that gave hope that the promise of devolution could be achieved. Moreover, it was clear that key to success would be the quality of political and organisational leadership and, in this respect, the contrast with other actors across ‘The Pond’ could not have been greater.
As we look to the future, our commitment remains unwavering. Over the next five years, we will continue to grow while staying true to the values that inspired us from the outset. We will strive to enhance our impact, helping our clients to navigate the significant challenges ahead.
