Westminster City Council is no ordinary local authority. Home to over 200,000 residents while welcoming up to a million commuters and visitors each day, our city is an international centre for government, business, tourism and culture. Our diversity is one of our greatest strengths, and we are committed to ensuring it is reflected in everything we do - through a deep and visible commitment to equality, diversity and inclusion, and to creating an inclusive city for all.
Our ambition is to create a city where everyone can thrive - from being born into a safe and supportive environment, through education and employment, to living well in later life with dignity and pride. Delivering this ambition depends on our people. We are committed to building a high-performing, inclusive organisation that empowers our workforce to deliver meaningful, long-term change for our communities.
At Westminster, how we work is just as important as what we deliver. Our Westminster Way underpins our culture - placing our people, our communities and our shared purpose at the heart of everything we do. We are focused on creating an environment where colleagues feel valued, respected and able to bring their whole selves to work, with a strong emphasis on wellbeing, inclusive leadership, diversity of thought and organisational development. We want all colleagues to feel a genuine sense of belonging and to be supported to thrive and succeed.
This is a pivotal time for Westminster. The Director of People and Culture will play a critical role in shaping and delivering our workforce strategy as part of our Fit for the Future transformation. This includes leading our approach to equality, diversity and inclusion - ensuring it is not a standalone priority, but embedded in every aspect of our people strategy, from workforce planning and policy development to recruitment, development and leadership. The role will lead the development of a modern, responsive and inclusive people function that enables the Council to attract, develop and retain the talent needed to meet current and future challenges, while fostering a culture of continuous improvement and innovation.
We are looking for an outstanding and inspiring leader who brings strategic insight, a strong track record in organisational development and a deep commitment to inclusive leadership. You will be a visible champion for equality, diversity and inclusion, and an open and collaborative leader able to build trusted relationships with colleagues, elected members, partners and trade unions. You will play a key role in driving forward a positive, values-led culture that reflects our ambition to be an employer of choice and an organisation where fairness, respect and opportunity are at the heart of everything we do.
If you are motivated by the opportunity to shape organisational culture, lead through complexity and make a lasting impact on both our workforce and the communities we serve, we would very much welcome your application.
