Welcome

Thank you for your interest in joining us here at Cambridgeshire County Council. Our county is rooted in history, academia, commerce and agriculture – from Cambridge’s world class university to our thriving market towns, and from the beauty of Ely Cathedral to the rich farmland of the fens, its vibrant and diverse people are ambitious, innovative and entrepreneurial. We’re at the forefront of the new industrial revolution, and AstaZeneca, Amazon, Microsoft and Apple are some of the multi-national organisations who have chosen to make the county their home.

Our vision is to create a greener, fairer and more caring Cambridgeshire.  That means we need inspiring, collaborative, compassionate and inclusive senior leaders to be part of the leadership team to drive forward this vision and make it a reality. You will need to possess the leadership capabilities and behaviours to succeed, not just within the Council but working with a range of partners, locally, regionally and nationally.

Despite our relative prosperity as a county, we still face a number of common challenges and issues – many residents are untouched by economic success, and in some areas the growth in employment has not been matched by an increase in house building and infrastructure. As a result, a significant number of people struggle with the cost of housing and transport, and in some areas the educational and health outcomes of the population are relatively poor.  These already significant challenges have been further compounded by the cost-of-living crisis that we all face and the need to support, protect and do more for the most vulnerable in our county is now critical.

Our vision is supported by seven ambitions.  To deliver our vision and ambitions, it’s essential that the Council can rapidly evolve and transform into an agile, accessible, and much more responsive organisation, 24/7.  At the heart of this approach has to be the acceleration of being ‘digital by design’ and ensuring that there is ‘no wrong door’ from the perspective of our residents and communities.  Customer experience (CX) and user experience (UX) need to go hand in hand with our approach to digital delivery and maximisation.  We need the strategies, architecture, and security to enable the rapid deployment of AI, RPA and core technology that delivers better outcomes for people and improved costs for the taxpayer, with the right governance in place.  As important as CX and UX however, is the insight we glean from our interactions with people and communities and the data that can enable us to further drive improvements, in an ethical manner.

We need someone who is strategically minded and is equally comfortable with operational execution and delivery. We need someone who appreciates the need to think like a resident and act like a taxpayer and we need someone who can role model our approach to compassionate and inclusive leadership.

As a Council, both members and officers, we’re determined to improve Cambridgeshire for the benefit of all our residents and reaffirm Cambridgeshire’s unique position in the UK. We’re looking for credible, capable, and talented people who share our values and want to help us harness the enormous potential of our county and everyone who lives here. If this sounds like you, and you want to work for a Council that is determined to face the future with confidence and optimism, then we very much want to hear from you.

Why should you join Cambridgeshire County Council?
Our Chief Executive, Stephen Moir, talks about what a great place to live and work in Cambridgeshire is.
