A local authority is seeking an Interim Transport Projects Lead to provide senior operational leadership across its transport infrastructure and highways service during a period of organisational transition. This Head of Service–level role will focus on stabilising performance, improving responsiveness and follow-through, and strengthening the Council’s ownership of customer engagement alongside an established long-term contractor arrangement. The position sits within a high-profile, politically visible environment, with increased public scrutiny around network condition and service delivery, and will play a key role in maintaining momentum during wider leadership changes.

The successful interim will drive improvements across three priority areas: enhancing engagement with businesses, residents, and stakeholders; building team capacity, accountability, and delivery culture; and improving programme performance, particularly ensuring timely progression from inspection to completed works. The role requires a hands-on, credible leader with strong experience in highways or transport operations, contractor oversight, and service improvement within complex, stakeholder-rich environments. This is an initial 6-month assignment with hybrid working, offering competitive day rates and the potential to transition into a longer-term or permanent position.
