About Surrey

Leafy, wealthy Surrey? Yes, but that's only part of the story. You can easily enjoy our beautiful countryside, and benefit from our strong local economy by living, working or studying here. However, we are so much more than that.

Surrey offers a fantastic quality of life for everyone who lives here. There is something for everyone here, from top leisure centres to fine dining and busy nightlife. We are also perfectly placed between London and the South Coast, with excellent transport links to both and the rest of the South of England, as well as the world with two international airports.

Innovation is a big part of who we are in Surrey, from the world's first purpose-built motor racing circuit in 1907 at Brooklands to the beginnings of Surrey Space Centre in 1979. Our space sector also plays a key role in the UK's largest regional space cluster, Space South Central. But it's not just space where Surrey is leading the way – we're doing the same in areas such as green technology, cyber security, and life sciences too. We are also one of the centres of the UK’s gaming industry. Innovation is embedded as a way of life in the many established global brands who have their headquarters here, and the exciting entrepreneurial start-ups who sit alongside them. Innovation in the county is further enhanced by cutting-edge research and development at three world-class universities.

Surrey is bursting with creativity. Theatres, sculpture parks, galleries, historic sites, festivals, museums, cinemas, farmers' markets, libraries, stately homes and more – there is so much to explore. And if looking isn't enough, there are thousands of opportunities to express your talent through dedicated clubs and groups. From traditional arts and crafts to the latest video games, if it can be made, it's made better in Surrey.

The ingredients are there for everyone to have a healthy and fulfilling life, however they choose to live it. We celebrate difference and ensure everyone's voices are heard. We are a more diverse county than you might think, with every resident's aspirations and wellbeing at the heart of our planning and decision making.

And when times are difficult, there is plenty of support and a real community spirit here. Compassion runs deep in Surrey, with thousands of people volunteering to help others through charities and community groups that make sure no one gets left behind.
